అథ షష్టస్సర్గః

శ్లో|| స నికామం విమానేషు విషణ్ణః కామరూపధృత్|
విచచార పునర్లఙ్కాం లాఘవేన సమన్వితః||1||

స|| ( సీతాం అదృష్ట్వా) విషణ్ణః సః కామరూపధృత్ హనుమాన్ పునః సమన్వితః విమానేషు లాఘవేన నికామం లఙ్కాం విచచార ||

Hanuman endowed with strength who can take any form, sad because he was unable to see Sita, again started moving speedily among the tall mansions of Lanka,

శ్లో|| అససాదాథ లక్ష్మీవాన్ రాక్షసేన్ద్ర నివేశనమ్|
ప్రాకారేణార్కవర్ణేన భాస్వరేణాభిసంవృతమ్||2||

స|| అథ లక్ష్మీవాన్ ( అతివీర్యసంపన్నః) భాస్వరేణ అర్కవర్ణేన ప్రాకారేణ సంవృతం రాక్షసేన్ద్ర నివేశనమ్ అససాద ||

Then that Vanara reached the residence of the king of the Rakshasas which is enclosed by a boundary wall which is red in color and dazzling like the mid-day Sun.

శ్లో|| రక్షితం రాక్షసైర్ఘోరైః సింహైరివమహద్వనమ్|
సమీక్షమాణో భవనం చకాశే కపికుఞ్జరః||3||

స||సింహైః రక్షితం మహావనమివ భీమైః రాక్షసైః రక్షితమ్ భవనమ్ సమీక్షమాణో కపికుఞ్జరః చకాశే||

The best among Vanaras looked surprised while searching that palace which was protected by fierce Rakshasas like a forest is protected by lions.

శ్లో|| రూప్యకోపహితైశ్చిత్రైః తోరణైర్హేమభూషితైః|
విచిత్రాభిశ్చ కక్షాభిః ద్వారైశ్చరుచిరైర్వృతమ్ ||4||

స|| విచిత్రాభిః కక్ష్యాభిః రుచిరైః ద్వారైశ్చ రూప్యకోపహితైః చిత్రైః హేమభూషితైః తోరణైః వృతం ( భవనం దదర్శ)||

(Hanuman saw) Colorful apartments with beautiful entrances , (They were) surrounded by arches inlaid with silver, decorated with gold

శ్లో|| గజాస్థితైర్మహామాత్రైః శూరైశ్చవిగతశ్రమైః|
ఉపస్థితం అసంహార్యైః హరయై స్యందనయాయిభిః||5||

స|| (హనుమాన్) గజస్థితైః వీరైశ్చ మహామాత్రైః విగతశ్రమైః అసంహార్యైః హయైః స్యందనయాయిభిః ఉపస్థితం ( దదర్శ)||

తా|| గజములమీద కూర్చుని ఉన్న శ్రమ ఎరగని వీరులను గజపాలకులను, అజేయములైన గుఱ్ఱములుపూన్చిన రథము పై సంచరిస్తున్న వీరులను చూచెను.

శ్లో|| సింహవ్యాఘ్రతనుత్రాణైః దాంతకాఞ్చనరాజతైః|
ఘోషవద్భిః విచిత్రైశ్చ సదా విచరితం రథైః||6||

స|| సింహ వ్యాఘ్ర తనుత్రాణైః దాన్తకాఞ్చన రాజతైః విచిత్రైః ఘోషవద్భిః రథైః సదా విచరితం ( తం భవనం దదర్శ) ||

Covered with skins of lions and tigers, encrusted with images of ivory gold and silver and making sounds the chariots were always moving about.

శ్లో|| బహురత్న సమాకీర్ణం పరార్ధ్యాసనభాజనమ్|
మహారథసమావాసమ్ మహారథమహాస్వనమ్||7||

స|| పరార్థ్యాసన భాజనమ్ బహురత్న సమాకీర్ణం మహారథ సమావాసమ్ మహారథ మహాస్వనమ్ (భవనమ్ దదర్శ)||

With excellent seats and vessels with many precious gems, with many places for big chariots, the place was filled with deep sounds of great charioteers.

శ్లో|| దృశ్యైశ్చ పరమోదారైః తైః తైశ్చ మృగపక్షిభిః|
వివిధైర్బహుసాహస్రైః పరిపూర్ణం సమంతతః||8||

స|| పరమోదారైః దృశ్యైః వివిధైః బహు సాహస్రైః తైశ్చ మృగపక్షిభిః తైః పరిపూర్ణం సమన్తతః ( భవనమ్ దదర్శ) ||

(The palace was) Filled with thousands of many kinds of beautiful pleasing beasts and birds of different kinds.

శ్లో|| వినీతైరంతపాలైశ్చ రక్షోభిశ్చ సురక్షితమ్|
ముఖ్యాభిశ్చ వరస్త్రీభిః పరిపూర్ణం సమంతతః||9||

స|| వినీతైః అన్తపాలైః చ రక్షోభిః సురక్షితం ముఖ్యాభిః వరస్త్రీభిః పరిపూర్ణం సమంతతః (భవనమ్ దదర్శ)||

Protected by disciplined Rakshasa palace guards, the palace was full of important noble women.

శ్లో|| ముదిత ప్రమదారత్నం రాక్షసేన్ద్ర నివేశనమ్|
వరాభరణసంహాద్రైః సముద్రస్స్వననిస్స్వనమ్||10||

స|| రాక్షసేన్ద్ర నివేశనం ముదిత ప్రమదారత్నం వరాభరణ సంహాద్రైః సముద్రస్స్వనన్నిస్వనమ్ ||

The palace of the Rakshasa king with jingling sounds of ornaments and accessories of joyful women reverberated with sounds like the sounds of the sea.

శ్లో|| తద్రాజగుణసంపన్నం ముఖ్యైశ్చాగరుచందనైః|
మహాజనైః సమాకీర్ణం సింహైరివ మహద్వనమ్||11||

స|| తత్ (భవనం) అగరుచన్దనైః రాజగుణసంపన్నం ముఖ్యైః మహాజనైః సమాకీర్ణం భవనం సింహైః సమాకీర్ణం మహత్ వనమివ (అస్తి)||

That palace full of eminent Rakshasas and great people endowed with royal traits looked like a great forest infested with lions. It carried various fragrances.

శ్లో|| భేరీమృదఙ్గాభిరుతం శంఖఘోషనినాదితమ్|
నిత్యార్చితం పర్వహుతం పూజితం రాక్షసైస్సదా||12||

స|| (తత్ భవనం) భేరీమృదఙ్గాభిరుతం శంఖఘోషనినాదితం (అస్తి) నిత్యార్చితం పర్వహుతం రాక్షసైః సదా పూజితం (అపి చ)||

That palace was filled with sounds of trumpets, echoed with sounds of conches and percussion instruments. The Rakshasas always performed daily worships and sacrifices on special days.

శ్లో|| సముద్రమివ గమ్భీరం సముద్రస్వననిస్స్వనమ్|
మహాత్మనోమహద్వేశ్మ మహారత్న పరిఛ్ఛదమ్|| 13||
మహారత్న సమాకీర్ణం దదర్శ స మహాకపిః|

స|| సముద్రమివ గమ్భీరం నిస్స్వనమ్ సముద్రమివ మహారత్నపరిచ్ఛదమ్ మహారత్న సమాకీర్ణం మహాత్మనస్య మహత్ వేశ్మ తత్ మహకపిః దదర్శ||

With deep sounds resembling the sounds of a sea, Hanuman saw the great residence filled with great men looking like a sea full of precious gems.

శ్లో|| విరాజమానం వపుషాగజాశ్వరథసంకులమ్||14||
లంకాభరణమిత్యేవ సోఽమన్యత మహాకపిః|
చచార హనుమాంస్తత్ర రావణస్య సమీపతః||15||

స|| ఏవం వపుషా విరాజమానం గజాశ్వరథ సంకులం ( భవనం) లంకాభరణం ఇతి సః మహాకపిః అమన్యత|| తత్ర హనుమతః రావణస్య( భవనం) సమీపతః చచార||

Hanuman thought that palace, bright in appearance being full of elephants horses and chariots, is the very jewel of Lanka. Then Hanuman moved closer to Ravana's palace,

శ్లో|| గృహాద్గృహం రాక్షసానాం ఉద్యానాని చ వానరః|
వీక్షమాణో హ్యసంత్రస్తః ప్రాసాదాంశ్చ చచార సః||16||

స||గృహాత్ గృహం రాక్షసానాం చ ఉద్యానాని ప్రాశాదాంశ్చ వీక్షమాణః అసంత్రస్తః హనుమాన్ చచార||

Hanuman moved about unobtrusively from house to house observing the gardens and the mansions.

శ్లో|| అవప్లుత్య మహావేగః ప్రహస్తస్య నివేశనమ్|
తతోఽన్యత్ పుప్లువే వేశ్మ మహాపార్శ్వస్య వీర్యవాన్||17||

స|| మహావీర్యః మహావేగః ప్రహస్తస్య నివేశనమ్ అవప్లుత్య మహాపార్శ్వస్య (భవనం) తతః అన్యత్ ( భవనం) పుప్లువే||

Courageous and quick Hanuman sprang from Prahasta's house to Mahaparsva's house and then jumped to other houses.

శ్లో|| అథ మేఘ ప్రతీకాశం కుంభకర్ణనివేశనమ్|
విభీషణస్య చ తథాపుప్లువే స మహాకపిః||18||

స|| అథ సః మహాకపిః మేఘప్రతీకాశం కుంభకర్ణస్య నివేశనం తదా విభీషణస్య( భవనం) పుప్లువే||

Then the great Vanara moved from Kumbhakarna's house resembling a great cloud to Vibhishana's house.

శ్లో|| మహోదరస్య చ గృహం విరూపాక్షస్య చైవ హి|
విద్యుజ్జిహ్వస్య భవనం విద్యున్మాలేస్తధైవచ ||19||
వజ్రదంష్ట్రస్య చ తథా పుప్లువే స మహాకపిః|

స|| సః మహాకపిః మహోదరస్య గృహం చ విరూపాక్షస్య చ ఏవ హి విద్యుజ్జిహ్వస్య తథైవ చ విద్యుమాలేః తథైవ వజ్రదంష్ట్రస్య భవనం పుప్లువే||

తా|| ఆ వానరుడు మహోదరుని గృహము, విరూపాక్షుని గృహము , విద్యుజ్జిహ్వుని గృహము , అలాగే విద్యుమాలి గృహము, వజ్రదంష్ట్రుని గృహములోకి దూకెను.

The great Vanara jumped from Mahodara's mansion to Virupaksha's, and jumped like that from Vidyujjihva's to Vidyumala's and then to Vajradamshtra's mansion.

శ్లో|| శుకస్య చ మహాతేజాః సారణస్య చ ధీమతః||20||
తథా చేన్ద్రజితోవేశ్మ జగామ హరియూధపః|

స|| మహాతేజాః హరియూథపః శుకస్య ధీమతః సారణస్య తథా ఇన్ద్రజితః వేశ్మ జగామ||

The powerful Vanara then went by the house of Suka, the intelligent Sarana and similarly Indrajit's mansion too.

శ్లో|| జంబుమాలే స్సుమాలేశ్చ జగామ హరిసత్తమః||21||
రశ్మి కేతోశ్చ భవనం సూర్య శత్రోస్తథైవచ |
వజ్రకాయస్య చ తథా పుప్లువే స మహాకపిః ||22||

స|| హరిసత్తమః జమ్బుమాలేః సుమాలేః చ జగామ|| సః మహాకపిః రశ్మికేతోః తథైవ చ సూర్యశత్రోః చ తథా వజ్రకాయస్య భవనం పుప్లువే||

The best of Vanara's then jumped from Jambumali's to Sumali's house. Similarly, that great Vanara jumped from Rasmiketu's to SuryaSatru's, and then to Vajrakaya's mansion

శ్లో|| ధూమ్రాక్షస్య చ సంపాతేః భవనం మారుతాత్మజః|
విద్యుద్రూపస్య భీమస్య ఘనస్య విఘనస్య చ||23||
శుకనాసస్య వక్రస్య శఠస్య వికటస్య చ|
బ్రహ్మకర్ణస్య దంష్ట్రస్య రోమశస్య చ రక్షసః||24||
యుద్ధోన్మత్తస్య మత్తస్య ధ్వజగ్రీవస్య నాదినః|
విద్యుజ్జిహ్వేన్ద్రజిహ్వానాం తథా హస్తిముఖస్య చ||25||

స|| ధూమ్రాక్షస్య తథా సంపాతేః భవనం తథైవ విద్యుద్రూపస్య భీమస్య ఘనస్య విఘనస్య చ ( భవనం పుప్లువే) || తథా రక్షసః శుకనాసస్య వక్రస్య వికటస్య బ్రహ్మకర్ణస్య దంష్ట్రస్య రోమశస్య చ (భవనం పుప్లువే)|| యుద్ధోన్మత్తస్య మత్తస్య ధ్వజగ్రీవస్య నాదినః (భవనం చ) విదుజ్జిహ్వస్య ఇన్ద్రజిహ్వస్య తథా హస్తిముఖస్య (భనం పుప్లువే)||

Then the great Vanara jumped over the houses of Dhumraksha, Sampati, Vidyudrupa, Bhima, Ghana, and Vighana. Similarly, he jumped over the houses of the Rakshasas Sukanasa, Vakra, Vikata, Brahmakarna, Damshtra, and Romasa. Then he jumped over the houses of Yuddhonmatta, Matta, Dhvajagriva, Nadina, Vidyujjihva, Indrajihva similarly Hastimukha.

శ్లో|| కరాళస్య పిశాచస్య శోణితాక్షస్య చైవ హి|
క్రమమాణం క్రమేణైవ హనుమామ్మారుతాత్మజః||26||

స||కరాళస్య పిశాచస్య శోణితాక్షస్య చ (భవనం అపి) క్రమమాణం క్రమేనైవ (పుప్లువే)||

Similarly, Hanuman jumped over the houses of Karala, Pisacha, and Sonitaksha in an orderly manner as he advanced.

శ్లో|| తేషు తేషు మహార్హేషు భవనేషు మహాయశాః|
తేషాం వృద్ధిమతాం వృద్ధిం దదర్శ స మహాకపిః||27||

స|| మహాయశాః తేషు తేషు భవనేషు ఋద్ధిమతాం తేషాం ఋద్ధిం సః మహాకపిః దదర్శ||

The great Vanara saw the wealth of the wealthy in their mansions.

శ్లో|| సర్వేషాం సమతిక్రమ్య భవనాని సమంతతః |
అససాదాథ లక్ష్మీవాన్ రాక్షసేన్ద్రనివేశనమ్|| 28||

స|| సః లక్ష్మీవాన్ సర్వేషాం భవనాని సమన్తతః రాక్షసేన్ద్ర నివేశనం ఆససాద||

That Vanara rich in capabilities then passing all the mansions reached the residence of the King of Rakshasas.

శ్లో|| రావణస్యోపశాయిన్యో దదర్శ హరిసత్తమః|
విచరన్ హరిశార్దూలో రాక్షసీర్వికృతేక్షణః||29||
శూలముద్గరహస్తాశ్చ శక్తితోమరధారిణీః|

స||| హరిశార్దూలః హరిసత్తమః విచరన్ రావణస్య ఉపశాయిన్యః వికృతేక్షణాః శూలముద్గరహస్తాశ్చ శక్తితోమర ధారిణః రాక్షసీః దదర్శ ||

The best of Vanara wandering about Ravana's palace saw Rakshasa women with hideous eyes carrying tridents and hammers, as well as powerful javelins and iron cudgels as arms

శ్లో|| దదర్శ వివిధాన్ గుల్మాన్ తస్య రక్షఃపతేర్గృహే||30||
రాక్షాసాంశ్చ మహాకాయాన్ నానా ప్రహరణోద్యతాన్|

స|| తస్య రక్షః పతే గృహే వివిధాన్ గుల్మాన్ మహాకాయాన్ నానాప్రహరోద్యతాన్ రాక్షసాంశ్చ దదర్శ||

At that home of the king of Rakshasas, Hanuman saw different regiments of army troops ready with different kinds of weapons.

శ్లో|| రక్తాన్ శ్వేతాన్ సితాంశ్ఛైవ హరీంశ్చాపి మహాజవాన్||31||
కులీనాన్ రూపసంపన్నాన్ గజాన్పరగజారుజాన్|
నిష్టితాన్ గజశిక్షయాం ఐరావతసమాన్యుధి||32||
నిహంతౄన్పరశైన్యానాం గృహే తస్మిన్ దదర్శ సః|
క్షరతశ్చ యథామేఘాన్ స్రవతశ్చ యథా గిరీన్||33||
మేఘస్తనిత నిర్ఘోషాన్ దుర్ధర్షాన్ సమరే పరైః|

స|| సః తస్మిన్ గృహే రక్తామ్ శ్వేతాన్ సితాంశ్చైవ మహాజవాన్ హరీశ్చాపి కులీనాన్ రూపసంపన్నాన్ పరగజారుజాన్ గజాన్ నిష్టితాన్ ఐరావతసమాన్ యుధి పరశైన్యానాం నిహన్తౄన్ క్షరతః యథా మేఘాన్ స్రవతః చ యథా గిరీన్ సమరే పరైః దుర్ధర్షాన్ గజాన్ దదర్శ ||

He saw well bred horses of red, white and cream colors which can travel fast. He saw good looking elephants not inferior to enemy's which are well trained and equal to Iravat in battle, which were unassailable in the battle and which were shedding rut resembling thundering clouds pouring out rain on the mountains.

శ్లో|| సహస్రం వాహినీస్తత్ర జాంబూనదపరిష్కృతాః||34||
హేమజాలపరిచ్చన్నాః తరుణాదిత్యసన్నిభాః|
దదర్శ రాక్షసేంద్రస్య రావణస్య నివేశనే||35||

స|| తత్ర రావణస్య నివేశనే జామ్బూనదపరిష్కృతాః హేమజాలపరిఛ్చన్నాః తరుణాదిత్యసన్నిభాః సహస్రం వాహినీం దదర్శ||

In Ravana's house he saw thousands of troops bedecked with gold, fully protected with armor of gold shining like the rising Sun.

శ్లో|| శిబికా వివిధాకారాః సకపిర్మారుతాత్మజః|
లతాగృహాణి చిత్రాణి చిత్రశాలాగృహాణిచ||36||
క్రీడాగృహాణి చాన్యాని దారుపర్వతకానపి|
కామస్య గృహకం రమ్యం దివాగృహకమేవచ ||37||
దదర్శ రాక్షసేన్ద్రస్య రావణస్య నివేశనే|

స|| సః కపిః మారుతాత్మజః రాక్షసేన్ద్రస్య రావణస్య నివేశనే వివిధాకారాః శిబికాః చిత్రాణి క్రీడాగృహాణి దారుపర్వతకానపి కామస్య గృహకమ్ రమ్యం దివాగృహకమేవ చ దదర్శ||

The great Vanara who is the son of Vayu, the wind god, saw in the palace of the king of Rakshasas different types of palanquins, sporting chambers, hillocks made of wood, charming houses for love making, chambers for the daytime activities also.

శ్లో|| స మన్దరగ్రిప్రఖ్యం మయూరస్థానసంకులమ్||38||
ధ్వజయష్టిభి రాకీర్ణం దదర్శ భవనోత్తమమ్|
అనేకరత్నసంకీర్ణం నిధిజాలం సమంతతః||39||
ధీరనిష్టితకర్మాంతం గృహం భూతపతేరివ|

స|| సః మన్దరగిరిప్రఖ్యం మయూరస్థాన సంకులమ్ ధ్వజయష్టిభిః ఆకీర్ణన్ ధీరనిష్ఠిత కర్మాన్తమ్ భూతపతేః గృహమివ భవనోత్తమమ్ సమన్తతః అనేకరత్న సంకీర్ణమ్ నిధిజాలమ్ దదర్శ ||

Comparable to mount Mandara, it was full of Peacocks. It was full of flag posts. It was built by skilled craftsman with great care, resembling Kailasa the house of the Lord of all creatures. He saw a magnificent mansion which was full of gems and treasure troves.

శ్లో|| అర్చిర్భిశ్చాపి రత్నానాం తేజసా రావణస్య చ||40||
విరరాజాథ తద్వేశ్మ రశ్మిమానివ రశ్మిభిః|

స|| తత్ వేశ్మ రత్నానామ్ అర్చిర్భిశ్చాపి రావణస్య తేజసా చ అథ రశ్మిభిః రశ్మిమానివ విరరాజ ||

తా|| ఆ భవనము అనేక రకములైన వజ్రములు రత్నములతో నిండియున్ననూ సూర్యకిరణముల తేజస్సులాగావున్న రావణుని తేజస్సుతో విరాజిల్లెను.

That palace though full of gems with wonderful hues, shone with the brilliance of Ravana like the Sun god with his rays of sunshine.

శ్లో|| జాంబూనదమయాన్యేన శయనాన్ ఆసనానిచ||41||
భాజనాని చ ముఖ్యాని దదర్శ హరియూథపః|

స|| హరియూథపః జామ్బూనదమయాన్యేవ శయనాని ఆసనాని చ ముఖ్యాని భాజనాని దదర్శ||

తా|| ఆ వానరోత్తముడు చూసిన భవనములో అక్కడ బంగారము తో చేయించబడిన శయనములు ఆసనములు , ఇంకా ముఖ్యమైన పాత్రలు ఉన్నాయి,

There the great Vanara saw the beds, and seats made, as well as many important vessels .

శ్లో|| మధ్వాసవకృతక్లేదం మణిభాజనసంకులమ్||42||
మనోరమ మసంబాధం కుబేరభవనం యథా|
నూపురాణాం చ ఘోషేణ కాఞ్చీనాం నినదేన చ||43||
మృదఙ్గతలఘోషైశ్చ ఘోషవద్భిర్వినాదితమ్|
ప్రాసాదసంఘాతయుతం స్త్రీరత్నశతసంకులమ్||
సుపూఢ్యకక్ష్యం హనుమాన్ ప్రవివేశ మహాగృహమ్||44||

స|| మధ్వాసకృతక్లేదం మణిభాజనసంకులం మనోరమమ్ అసమ్భాధమ్ కుబేర భవనం యథా నూపురాణాం కాఞ్చీనామ్ నినదేన ఘోషవద్భిః మృదఙ్గతలఘోషైశ్చ వినాదితమ్ ప్రాసాదసంఘాతయుతమ్ మహాగృహం హనుమాన్ ప్రావివేశ||

Hanuman saw the spacious and very delightful palace, which is like that of Kubera, which is drenched with liquor and other drinks, with gem encrusted vessels scattered all over. Hanuman then entered the house which was resonating with sounds of golden anklets of women and the drums. which had rows of mansions with lofty palaces and well laid apartments full of exquisite women.

చతుర్వింశత్ సహస్రికాయాం సంహితాయామ్
శ్రీమత్సుందరకాండే షష్ఠస్సర్గః||

Thus, ends the fifth Sarga of Sundarakanda in Ramayana, the first ever poem of mankind composed by Maharshi Valmiki.
